My Rating: 4.5 Stars! (Loved it!)
Book & Author: What I talk about when I talk about running by Haruki Murakami
Genre: Memoir
I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this audiobook. Although this was not narrated by Mr. Murakami himself, it was still very well written and narrated. The audiobook is a short listen if you listen to it at the speed of 1.25 on the app and its really entertaining.
This was my first Murakami, and now I want to read more of his books. The author talks about his experiences while running and preparing for marathons, ultra marathons and triathlons and in between, correlates running with being a writer and the similarities that both verbs have. I was actually inspired to try out running again to lose all that flab I’ve been accumulating, while reading/listening to this book..lol!
As always, its difficult to read a good book on audible, because I like to pause and take notes about the good passages or insights, that a writer has- and that becomes difficult when you’re listening on an audiobook because you’re usually listening to it while you’re doing some other chore where your hands are occupied or you are mobile. I did still try to take down a few notes on my notes app, while listening to it. But now I’ve decided that the next audiobook I listen to will be simple stories, instead of memoirs or self help books.
Here are some of my favorite quotes from the book. Have you read or listened to this book? What were your thoughts and what is the first Murakami that you would recommend me to read?
The older you get, the busier you become <lol!>
Running and writing are similar because you don’t compete with others, but with yourself. You set personal goals to achieve
It’s a thin wall that separates healthy confidence and unhealthy pride
Human body is a practical system
When people pass away, do their thoughts just vanish?
Learning to swim, is like learning to drum initially. Its boring because you have to practice the basics over and over again, but in the end it all comes together
With this, I finished the second book from the Modern Mrs. Darcy reading challenge 2018- A memoir, biography or book of creative non fiction’. How is your reading challenge going on?
